Enhancing PBC Patient Care with FibroScan® Technology
Louise and the Tawazun Health team were honoured to support the PBC Foundation at their recent Patient Conference held in Edinburgh, Scotland, on the 7th and 8th of September. The team were able to provide and to empower patients living with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) by providing access to FibroScan® technology, allowing them access to their liver health. The PBC Foundation, the world’s largest support organisation for those living with PBC, hosted patients and their families from around the globe, including countries such as Scotland, England, Canada and the USA.
Supporting the PBC Community
The conference provided a platform for individuals living with PBC, as well as their family members, to gain valuable insights into their health through non-invasive liver scanning. Tawazun Health, responding to the PBC Foundation’s request, delivering expert FibroScan® services during the event. The technology allowed patients to assess their liver health in real-time, and family members were also given the opportunity to understand the process their loved ones go through as part of their care journey.
Whether patients were experiencing their first FibroScan® or had not had a recent scan, the sessions facilitated an interactive environment where participants received sensitive feedback on their results. Louise was available throughout to answer questions regarding the FibroScan® findings, what these meant for their liver health.
Insights from the Event
The feedback from the conference was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting a genuine interest among attendees in learning more about their liver health and management strategies. The event facilitated meaningful discussions between patients, their families, healthcare professionals and industry experts, creating a greater awareness of the benefits of regular liver assessments using FibroScan® .
One significant insight gained from the event was the presence of high steatosis levels in some patients, indicating that multiple liver conditions could be present. This information emphasises the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles to prevent the exacerbation of one condition by another. Given that the majority of PBC patients are women, this finding is crucial for the future management of their health.

At Tawazun Health, we believe that enhancing patient knowledge in rare liver conditions like PBC is essential for empowering individuals to make informed decisions about their health. By raising awareness about non-invasive liver scanning and providing accurate, accessible information, we aim to support patients and their families in making choices that positively impact their liver health and overall wellbeing.
